António Félix da Costa won the Formula E race in Madrid, which took place this afternoon at the Jarama circuit. It was the Portuguese driver’s 14th victory in the competition and his second in a row, after winning in Saudi Arabia on February 14.
After this result, Félix da Costa is the second driver with the most victories of all time in Formula E.
The 23-lap race always took place on dry ground. The Jaguar driver started from P3 and came second on the first lap. In the third round, he was hampered by Pascal Wehrlein’s contact with Nyck de Vries.
Félix da Costa’s strategy proved to be correct, as he made an early pit stop, on lap 12, which put him in first place, a position he did not give up after all the drivers stopped, on lap 17.
On the 18th lap, the Jaguar driver used attack mode which allowed him to defend his position. Teammate Mitch Evans came from 16th and made a remarkable recovery, having fought closely with Félix da Costa in the last three laps.
At the end of the race, the Portuguese driver tried to manage his emotions but did not hide his happiness:
“It’s a special race for several reasons. Two consecutive victories is always special. I have to thank the team here at the circuit and everyone at the factory. I have my family and many friends here in Madrid. It was an unforgettable afternoon”, said the driver shortly after the end of the race.
Citroën Racing’s Nick Cassidy finished 17th after starting on pole position. Teammate Jean Eric Vergne was 14th in a particularly difficult journey for the French team who sit 5th in the teams’ championship.
After this victory António Félix da Costa is 4th in the championship, with 64 points, 19 points less than leader Pascal Wehrlein, from the Porsche Formula E Team.
