The São Paulo Metro approved the design of 44 new trains that will be used in and to reinforce the fleets of lines 1-blue and 3-red. According to Metro, the cars should be delivered between 2027 and 2030 and incorporated into the system gradually, probably from 2028 onwards.
The Metro states that the new models will have a USB port for recharging cell phones, air conditioning, high-definition cameras and free passage between cars. The compositions will be manufactured in Araraquara (SP) by the company CRRC based on the prototype developed in China, at a cost of R$3.1 billion.
In the first stage, the expansion will connect Vila Prudente to Penha, with around 8 kilometers and eight stations. The work is scheduled to finish in 2028. The project also foresees the expansion of line 2-green to Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo, with five more stations, in a second stage.
