President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) arrives this Sunday (22) in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, on the eve of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP15 of the CMS), which takes place between March 23 and 29.

Lula will be accompanied by Minister Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs) and Ministers Marina Silva (Environment and Climate Change), Sonia Guajajara (Indigenous Peoples), Simone Tebet (Planning and Budget) and Luciana Santos (Science, Technology and Innovation), as well as other authorities.

The convention promotes international cooperation for the protection of species that cross land, marine and air borders. In 2026, COP15 is under the leadership of the Government of Brazil and the presidency of the executive secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, João Paulo Capobianco.

Currently, 133 countries from Africa, Central and South America, Asia, Europe and Oceania are signatories to the Convention. In total, there are 1,189 species, distributed among 962 birds, 94 land mammals, 64 aquatic mammals, 58 species of fish, 10 reptiles and one insect.
