Pope Leo XIV. he strongly condemned the airstrikes and called them reckless. At a time of escalating war in the Middle East, he calls for their complete ban.
Pope Leo XIV. on Monday he sharply criticized the airstrikes, which he called reckless and which he said should be banned. It is his latest statement as the armed conflict in the Middle East enters its fourth week. TASR writes about it according to a Reuters report.
- Pope Leo XIV strongly condemned the current airstrikes as reckless and unacceptable.
- The armed conflict in the Middle East continues for the fourth week of fighting.
- The Pope described air forces in wars as an inadmissible way of conducting battles.
Although the Pope did not specifically mention the escalating conflict in the Middle East at the meeting with the management and employees of the Italian airline ITA Airways, he strongly condemned the use of air power in war conflicts.
Airstrikes under fire
“No one should be subject to the fear that threats of death and destruction may come from heaven,” the Pope said.
“After the tragic experiences of the 20th century, aerial bombing should have been banned forever,” he said. “Yet they still exist. That’s not progress, that’s a step backwards!” declared the highest representative of the Catholic Church.
Calling for a truce
The Pope has repeatedly called for a ceasefire and on Sunday called the war in the Middle East “a scandal for the entire human family”.
The Italian carrier ITA Airways usually transports the Pope from Rome on his foreign trips.
