Understand the case

Military Police soldier Gisele Alves Santana, aged 32, was found dead in her apartment in Brás, central São Paulo, on February 18. Initially treated as a suicide, the incident evolved into an investigation into qualified feminicide and procedural fraud.

Lieutenant Colonel Geraldo Leite Rosa Neto, 53 years old, Gisele’s husband, has been in pre-trial detention since March 18. He was indicted by the Civil Police and became a defendant for feminicide and procedural fraud.

The change of direction in the investigation occurred after the analysis of expert reports, statements and evidence extracted from electronic devices.

According to a Civil Police report and a complaint from the MPSP (Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo), there is a consistent set of elements that completely rule out the hypothesis of suicide.

Among the central points are the lieutenant colonel’s contradictions, evidence of manipulation of the crime scene and clear signs of violence prior to the death.

According to , he heard the shot a few moments after leaving his wife’s room.

The necroscopic examination confirmed that the shot was fired with the gun pressed against the victim’s head, in a trajectory incompatible with a self-inflicted gunshot.

Additionally, experts found injuries to her face and neck, including finger marks and scratches, indicating that Gisele was immobilized before being killed. Bruises in the eye region also point to attacks prior to or simultaneous to the shooting.

The approach, restraint of the victim and shooting Gisele in the head can be described in four acts, according to the report.

According to experts from the São Paulo Scientific Police, the lieutenant colonel approached the victim inside the residence. The approach occurs from behind, taking Gisele by surprise.

Geraldo would have immobilized the victim, grabbing him from behind. Gisele tried to free herself from the attack. At that moment, the suspect holds a firearm close to her head.

The report identified injuries compatible with finger pressure on the lower part of the PM’s face and on the right side of his neck. A superficial nail mark was also found.

For experts, these marks indicate that there was a physical struggle or attempted choking before the fatal shot.
