Police arrest elderly woman suspected of killing stepdaughter in RS

Civil police agents from Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina arrested Lurdes de Fátima de Lima Maurina, 63 years old, in Itajaí (SC) this Monday (23). The elderly woman is suspected of killing her stepdaughter, Maria Helena de Souza, aged 50, and fleeing after the crime.

The case took place in the town of Rochedo, a rural area of ​​the city of Igrejinha, (RS), last Saturday (21).

According to the delegate responsible for the investigation, Ivanir Caliari, the elderly woman was from the state of Santa Catarina and maintained ties with relatives in the cities of São Miguel do Oeste (SC) and Itajaí (SC). From there, they started a task force that resulted in the woman’s location. The agents contacted the defense lawyer, who took the elderly woman to the police station.

After undergoing a custody hearing, the elderly woman will be taken to the Vale do Itajaí Penitentiary Complex, where she will remain in prison until she is transferred to .

The crime

The conflict reportedly began after an argument between the stepmother and stepdaughter, who was visiting her 66-year-old father, who was bedridden. According to information from the civil police, the elderly woman disapproved of the woman’s presence and shot her with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Shortly after the shooting, she abandoned the weapon used in the crime and headed towards a wooded area, on the outskirts of the property. The suspect and victim had no police record. The investigation remains ongoing.
