Lula announces Fernanda Machiaveli as new minister of Agrarian Development

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced this Tuesday, 24, that the executive secretary of the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA), Fernanda Machiaveli, will be the new minister of the department. She will replace Paulo Teixeira, who will resign from the position to run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies for São Paulo.

The announcement was made during the 3rd National Conference on Rural and Sustainable Development, held at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center, in Brasília (DF). Paulo Teixeira gave a farewell speech and Lula stated that he could not deny a candidacy request from an assistant.

Lula also signaled what the ministerial reform promoted by him will be like in the coming weeks. As in the case of the MDA, the president must prioritize the appointment of executive secretaries. This happened with Dario Durigan, at the Treasury, and should happen in other departments, such as the Civil House, where the candidate to take over is Miriam Belchior.

“I am taking great care to keep people in the government who already work in the government and already know the machines to make their work easier,” stated the president.
