Moro forms an alliance with Novo, but faces resistance in the PL – 03/25/2026 – Politics

The senator, affiliated with this Tuesday (24) to run for the Government of, is already facing resistance to his name within the party’s ranks. The wing dissatisfied with the arrival of the former Lava Jato judge is headed by the president of the state PL, federal deputy Fernando Giacobo, who informed allies on Tuesday night that he will leave command of the party.

A Sheet he was unable to speak to Giacobo this Tuesday and Moro did not want to speak. Federal deputy Filipe Barros (PL), who will be one of the Senate candidates on Moro’s ticket, also preferred not to comment.

If he confirms his departure, Giacobo can convince mayors and deputies to follow the same path.

This Tuesday, Giacobo’s absence at , in Brasília, was noticed by his supporters. In the local president’s view, the PL should continue in the alliance with the governor’s PSD, which on Monday (23) withdrew from the race for Planalto and chose to end his term at Palácio Iguaçu, with .

The name of the PSD that will go to has not yet been defined, and the group fears a defeat for Moro, who has been in first place in voting intention polls.

It is not the first friction for Moro in articulating with , who also joined in Paraná, when he was still affiliated with the party.

The greatest strain on the relationship with União Brasil occurred during the 2024 elections, when he contested the names of supporters launched in strategic cities in Paraná and even asked for intervention from the party’s leadership.

At the end of last year, Moro was also rejected by the PP, which in Paraná is controlled by federal deputy Ricardo Barros. With the support of Ciro Nogueira, national president of the party, Barros’ group vetoed the former judge’s candidacy for the Government of Paraná within the scope of the federation being built between PP and União Brasil.

The space now in the PL was conquered by Moro in the wake of the articulations around the race for the Planalto. Launched as a pre-candidate for the Presidency, the senator (PL) was looking for a platform in Paraná, since Ratinho Junior was also placing himself as a name for the federal government.

Ratinho Junior’s sudden withdrawal caught allies by surprise, but did not change the agreement that Moro had made with the PL leadership days ago. The governor openly admitted his interest in participating in the Planalto elections at the end of 2024 and, since then, until this Monday’s statement, he was working to enter the dispute.

Allies say that the family’s opinion weighed in the decision, but the difficulty in guaranteeing a viable candidacy for their group at the Iguaçu Palace also influenced it. In addition to losing the PL, the PSD in Paraná was left without the Novo party, whose main leader in the state is the former Lava Jato prosecutor.

Moro and Deltan parted ways in the 2024 elections, when the former prosecutor walked alongside Ratinho Junior’s group to elect Eduardo Pimentel (PSD) to Curitiba City Hall. In the same election, Moro cast his wife, federal deputy Rosangela Moro, as .

Now, for the 2026 elections, Moro managed to attract Novo to his ticket with Deltan appearing as a pre-candidate for the Senate, along with Filipe Barros.

In the opinion of Novo members, there was no way for the party in Paraná to remain supporting the PSD, against Bolsonarism and against the former Lava Jato judge. The operation launched more than ten years ago supported the entry into party life of Deltan and Moro, a duo that carries the anti-PT banner.

For the alliance between PL and Novo to be consolidated, Deltan’s party also needed to rule out the possibility of its own candidacy, which was discussed with the affiliation of former federal deputy and current vice-mayor of Curitiba Paulo Martins, last year.

Martins is a friend of Ratinho Junior and was Moro’s opponent in the Senate race in 2022. But, within Novo, the thesis prevailed that Deltan could not make a movement contrary to the PL.

In addition to Moro, two other pre-candidates for the Executive have already been launched: the former mayor of Curitiba Rafael Greca, who left the PSD and migrated to the MDB, and state deputy Requião Filho (PDT), who has the support of the PT.

Within the PSD, two names want the vacancy: the state secretary of Cities, Guto Silva, and the president of the Legislative Assembly, state deputy Alexandre Curi. As there is no unanimity in the party around the two names, the mayor of Curitiba, Eduardo Pimentel, is also being discussed, as is the current vice-governor Darci Piana.
