Governor says he will not accept being Caiado’s vice president and will not seek Federal Senate
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD), stated that he intends to present himself as a centrist alternative in the presidential dispute, defending the depolarization of the country and ruling out the possibility of running for the Senate or occupy the position of vice-president on a ticket.
“I think it is very important that I am the option to depolarize the country. I can no longer stand to see this situation of throwing problems without presenting solutions”, said Leite during his participation in the program Em Tempo Real, on Young Pan.
“One political camp tries to throw attacks on the other that increase their rejection to make voters vote and decide the country based on fear, fear of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva continuing, fear of Jair Bolsonaro returning. That’s what would dictate the election”, he added.
When talking about the electoral scenario, the governor highlighted the importance of the next election both for the country and for his party, the PSD. “This election is important for Brazil and for the PSD. After all, it has been fifteen years since the party has had the largest number of governors, mayors in Brazil, a significant federal bench, but it will be the first time that we present a presidential candidacy and it will define what we seek for the future of Brazil”, he declared.
O governor also highlighted that he intends to defend a balanced agendawhich unites different agendas. “You can embrace public security issues firmly and (embrace) diversity issues”, says Leite, who signaled that his candidacy can combine firmness in the fight against crime with the defense of diversity.
It depends on Kassab
Behind the scenes, the definition of who will represent the party in the presidential race must go through the president of the acronym, Gilberto Kassab, who will have to choose between the name of Eduardo Leite and that of the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado. THE scenario took on new contours after the withdrawal of the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Jr.to run for Palácio do Planalto.
Eduardo Leite also made it clear that his focus is on the dispute for Palácio do Planaltodismissing speculation about other electoral possibilities, and said that he will not try for the Senate and that he does not accept being Caiado’s vice-president, “although he greatly respects the governor of Goiás”. According to him, the objective is to offer voters an alternative that prioritizes concrete proposals and solutions for the country.
