Maierovitch: STF stops bleeding in the image with decision on penduricalhos

Jurist and professor Wálter Maierovitch stated that the decision by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) to reduce the benefits of the Judiciary represents only a partial solution to the problem of the so-called “hanging fruit”. In an interview with WWMaierovitch highlighted that the measure managed to stop part of the hemorrhaging in the sector’s image in public opinion.

“The Supreme Court managed to resolve the issue in part. And it also showed everyone that there were supreme hangers-on. So, the Supreme Court also had hangers-on there,” explained Maierovitch, referring to members of the Judiciary.

Maierovitch explained that the STF established a transition regime for the benefits of the Judiciary, respecting the . “The Supreme Court reached an important point, established a transitional norm, stopped the bleeding using an image”, he stated.

The jurist highlighted an important point of the decision: maintaining what is established in federal law. According to him, the states created a veritable “tram” of additional benefits. “There was even assistance from Turkey, all that was left to do was include the IPTU, but they didn’t do that”, he commented.

For the expert, it is now up to the National Congress to do the necessary part, always observing the salary ceiling and ensuring that this limit is not exceeded. The STF’s decision, according to Maierovitch, represents an important step towards improving the perception of the Judiciary in society, but it still requires legislative complementation to produce full effects.
