CBF president vetoes ‘Brasa’ on the team’s uniform – 03/26/2026 – Sports

The president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), Samir Xaud, stated that he was “caught by surprise” by the sock of the Brazilian team’s uniform presented by Nike with the inscription “Brasa” instead of “Brazil”. According to the director, the motto defined by the company to describe its marketing campaign will not be on the players’ uniforms.

“I was taken a little by surprise. What was presented to me when I was there didn’t have ‘Brasa’, but we knew that there was an advertising campaign that would be carried out for the World Cup in relation to this. Beforehand, due to the respect I have for the Brazilian flag, which everyone already knows, and for the Brazilian team, there is no ‘Brasa’ on our main uniform”, said Xaud in an interview with ESPN.

Despite stating that he was not aware of the choice made by the sponsor, the director said that the socks presented were just a publicity campaign. “This was done by Nike for an isolated advertising campaign, but I make it clear that our uniform is our mantle, green and yellow. I always make that clear.”

Xaud also said that, as the current contract with Nike was signed during the previous administration, he had to address a series of issues as soon as he took office, in May 2025. According to the manager, the most sensitive controversy occurred after the supplier’s idea of launching a red shirt.

“To my knowledge, from the moment I joined, in the first month of management, we focused on important issues and you followed with me the issue of the red shirt, something that we already blocked in principle, because I know our identity, our culture as Brazilians, as fans”, he explained. “This issue of patriotism, I always make it clear: regardless of political side, we are not here to play politics over football, especially in the CBF.”

When contacted by the report, Nike did not respond until the publication of this text.
