Number equivalent to 10.1% of the total documents expected for this year; Deadline for declaration ends on May 29
Around 4.4 million tax payers settled their accounts with Leão in the 1st week of submission of the 2026 Personal Income Tax Declaration (base year 2025). As of 6:03 pm on Friday (27 March 2026), 4,444,798 documents had been sent.
The number is equivalent to 10.1% of the total declarations expected for this year. In 2026, the Tax Authority projects to receive 44 million declarations. Traditionally, the delivery rate is higher in the 1st week because of tax payers who filled out the document in advance.
According to the Federal Revenue, 80% of the declarations submitted so far will be entitled to receive a refund, while 11.1% will have to pay Income Tax and 8.9% have no tax to pay or receive.
The majority of documents were filled out using the computer program (69%), but 19.2% of Brazilians resort to filling them out online, which leaves the draft declaration saved on the Tax Authorities’ computers (Revenue’s cloud), and 11.8% declare using the My Income Tax application for smartphones and tablets.
A total of 59.9% of citizens who submitted the document to the Federal Revenue Service used the pre-filled declaration, through which the declarant downloads a preliminary version of the document, simply confirming the information or rectifying the data. The simplified discount option represents 57% of shipments.
The deadline to submit the declaration ends at 11:59 pm on May 29th. The program that creates the declaration has been available since March 19th. Anyone who does not send the declaration on time will pay a fine of R$165.74 or 1% of the tax due, whichever is higher.
Individuals who received taxable income above R$35,584, as well as those who obtained gross income from rural activities above R$177,920, are required to declare.
People who received up to 2 monthly minimum wages in 2025 are exempt from making the declaration, unless they meet another mandatory criterion.
