Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have threatened attacks on American universities in the Middle East. They did so after strikes that hit two universities in Iran, TASR reports, according to an AFP report.
- Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have threatened attacks on American universities in the Middle East.
- The guards made the protection of American universities conditional on the official condemnation of the bombing of Iranian universities by the US government.
- They set the deadline for the publication of the American condemnation statement until Monday at noon Tehran time.
“If the United States government wants its universities to be protected from retaliation, it must condemn the bombing of universities in an official statement by Monday, March 30 at 12:00 noon Tehran time (9:30 a.m. CEST),” the Revolutionary Guards said in a statement published by Iranian media.
Warning about the proximity of campuses
At the same time, they advised all employees, professors and students of American universities in the region and residents in their vicinity to “stay at least a kilometer away from university campuses”.
Several US university campuses are located in the Gulf countries, such as in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Condemnation of attacks
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bakaji says the Technical University of Isfahan and the University of Science and Technology in Tehran were not legitimate targets. The sites were “among the many universities and research centers deliberately targeted by the aggressors during the past 30 days of their illegal war against the Iranian nation.”
Universities are the target
According to him, the US-Israeli war reveals its real goal, which is to “cripple the scientific foundations and cultural heritage of our country by systematically targeting universities, research centers, historical monuments and eminent scientists.”
