Tension between the US and Iran is growing: Speaker of the Parliament Kalibaf talks about…

The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baker Kalibaf, warned on Sunday that the United States was preparing a ground attack against Iran despite the fact that American officials publicly declare that they are conducting talks aimed at ending the month-long war. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.

“The enemy is publicly sending signals of negotiations and dialogue while secretly planning a ground attack,” said Kálibáf in a statement published by the official IRNA news agency. “Our men await the arrival of American soldiers to burn them and punish their regional allies once and for all,” he declared.

The Washington Post (WP) reported on Saturday that the Pentagon is preparing plans for weeks of ground operations in Iran that could potentially include attacks on Khark Island and coastal sites in the Strait of Hormuz. According to WP sources it will not be a full-fledged invasion, but rather raids by special forces and conventional infantry.

US President Donald Trump had earlier called the ground invasion a “waste of time” because Iran had “already lost everything”. He recently added that he would not even advise sending ground troops, repeating that he does not plan such a deployment.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters on Friday that the war with Iran will be over in weeks, not months, and that the United States does not need ground troops to succeed.

At the same time, Qalibaf called on Iranians to be united, as the country is in a “great global war” that is “at its most critical stage”. “We are confident that we can punish the United States, make them regret the attack on Iran and secure our legitimate rights,” he emphasized.
