On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi described the defense agreements as “historic”, which he signed last week with the countries of the Middle East during his visit to the region. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
- Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the new defense agreements with the countries of the Middle East as historic.
- Ukraine signed defense agreements with Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
- The agreements include Ukrainian expertise in shooting down attack drones.
- The contracts have the character of long-term strategic cooperation in the field of military technology.
- Ukraine offers cheaper anti-drone systems in exchange for expensive anti-aircraft missiles.
Kyiv concluded agreements with Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Their contents have not yet been made public, but Zelenskyy said they include Ukrainian expertise in shooting down drones – experience that they may be crucial given Iran’s attacks on the Persian Gulf countries during the Middle East conflict.
“I believe that these are historic agreements. We have agreed on strategic cooperation in the field of military technology and also in other areas. We are talking about ten-year agreements,” Zelenskyy told reporters.
Kiev is trying to use its experience in destroying Russian drones to defend the Persian Gulf countries, which are attacking the same Iranian Shahid-type drones that Russia is using against Ukraine. He suggested exchanging Ukraine’s relatively cheap means of destroying drones with the expensive anti-aircraft missiles currently used by the Gulf states to shoot down Iranian drones.
