Zelenskyy proposes a stop to Russia by attacking the energy sector and combines it with an effort to dampen the global oil crisis. He also expects peace negotiations to resume.
On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi called on Russia to agree to a mutual cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure. The aim is to help alleviate the global oil crisis caused by the war in the Middle East. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.
“If Russia is ready to stop attacking Ukrainian energy facilities, we will not respond by attacking their energy sector,” Zelenskyy told reporters.
Rising oil prices
Oil prices increased significantly after the start of the war in the Middle East. The key sea route through the Strait of Hormuz has been virtually closed since then, and Tehran has begun attacking energy infrastructure in the region.
Zelensky also expects that trilateral peace talks with Russia and the United States could take place in the coming weeks. “The ball is now in the court of the USA and Russia. I am very grateful to America for continuing this format, and God willing, we will have this opportunity in the coming weeks,” he said, according to the Ukrainian Pravda website. Negotiations to end Russia’s war in Ukraine stalled after the start of the conflict in the Middle East, as Washington’s attention shifted to the region.
Place of negotiations
The president repeated that Ukraine is ready to meet “in any format, in any place, except for Russia and Belarus.” He added that Kyiv is willing to support trilateral negotiations in the US, Switzerland, Turkey “or wherever the partners are ready”.
