The delivery of the first stage of the new headquarters of the Rio Branco City Council, on Monday (30), has been marked by speeches from councilors who highlighted the historical importance of the work for the capital of Acre.
With an investment of around R$27 million, the inaugurated structure includes the plenary, where legislative sessions will take place.

Mayor Joabe Lira emphasized that the inauguration represents the end of an old gap, as Rio Branco was the only capital in the country without its own headquarters for the municipal Legislature.
“It’s a special moment, a milestone for our city. Now we will have a modern space, well located, with its own parking and adequate structure to receive the population, who will be able to come here to demand and closely monitor the work of the councilors”, he stated.

He also highlighted that the new space should strengthen the role of the Legislature as a direct channel between the population and public authorities. “I am sure that many important debates and transformations will take place here for our city, based on the demands of the population”, he added.
Councilor Felipe Tchê also reinforced the relevance of the delivery, especially with regard to working conditions and customer service. According to him, the first phase already guarantees significant improvements to the functioning of the House.
“It is of fundamental importance, especially for the population and for Chamber employees. This stage includes the plenary, where legislative work takes place. It is an advance that guarantees more dignity for those who work here and more access for the population”, he highlighted.

The parliamentarian also explained that the second phase of the work should include the construction of councilors’ offices, but there is still no set date for full completion. The expectation is that the entire structure will be completed by the end of the current legislature.
The move to the new building is expected to take place in the second half of this year.
