The president of Aena’s Brazilian subsidiary, Santiago Yus, said that, with the victory in the auction for Galeão International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, the company is now able to act in a coordinated manner with Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo, which allows it to offer “special conditions to customers”.
— All of our operations around the world are coordinated, whether inside or outside Brazil as well. This coordination also allows us to bring special conditions to all our customers.
He continued during the press conference:
— This allows us to bring a lot of synergies […] These are not just synergies from an activity and traffic point of view, but also synergies to bring better commercial operations, better passenger experience and also synergies from an expense point of view.
This Monday, Aena won the auction to renegotiate the concession for Galeão Airport, the third busiest in the country, behind Guarulhos and Congonhas. The Spanish surpassed the current administrator, RIOgaleão (which participated under the name Rio de Janeiro Aeroporto), and the Swiss company Zurich.
The Rio de Janeiro Aeroporto consortium was formed by the Brazilian management company Vinci Compass and the Singaporean operator Changi. The envelopes with the proposals were opened from 3 pm, at B3, in São Paulo, but the dispute ended up going to open outcry bidding, with the three competitors in the dispute.
