President of PT-SP defends Kassab as Lula’s vice president – 03/30/2026 – Politics

The president of , federal deputy Kiko Celeguim, defends the name of the national president of , former mayor, for the vice president’s ticket (PT) in place of (PSB), who, in turn, would run for the Senate.

One day after the general coordinator of Lula’s campaign and national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, signaled that Alckmin would remain in vice ––, Celeguim stated that “the PSD is the key party to win the election”.

Asked about what this configuration would be like, the president of the PT of São Paulo suggested that Kassab be offered the position of Lula’s vice-president. He also proposes the PSD, or another center party, to form the ticket for the Government of São Paulo headed by the former Minister of Finance (PT).

“To win the election, we need Kassab and Geraldo [Alckmin] in the correct positions,” Celeguim told Sheet this Sunday (30), when commenting on Edinho’s statements. “Kassab is Lula and Geraldo’s vice president in São Paulo,” he added.

The choice of pre-candidate for President. He was competing for the party’s seat with the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, , and the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Junior, who withdrew last week.

Celeguim – who will coordinate Haddad’s campaign for Palácio Bandeirantes – suggests that Alckmin would run for the Senate alongside the minister (PSB).

Also in this composition, the Minister of Entrepreneurship, (), could replace Alckmin in the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, .

Kassab has publicly reaffirmed his support for the re-election of the governor (Republicans) and the launch of his own candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic. On Wednesday (25), in anticipation of an invitation to become vice-president on Tarcísio’s ticket for re-election.

In conversations, Tarcísio has dismissed this hypothesis and openly criticized the former political organizer. A wing of the PT sees this erosion as an opportunity to get closer to the PSD, today the PL’s biggest rival on the national scene.

On Saturday, the national president of the PT admitted that, despite efforts to consummate alliances with center parties, they will only take place in the states.

“I think the alliances with the PSDB will be built in the states. I don’t believe in a national alliance with these parties, we have to respect the contradictions”, says Edinho, alluding to the parties’ internal differences.

Lula’s allies made efforts to at least count on the MDB in the coalition. The president himself even met with party leaders, raising the possibility of them becoming vice-president. But without success so far.

The PT president states, however, that these alliances will take place in many states. “There are many leaders of these parties who know what is at stake in these parties, that the choice will be one of the future, what legacy we will leave for future generations. The Brazil of the Bolsonaro family we already know what it leads to”, he states.

Without new allies at the center, Edinho dedicates himself to consolidating alliances with traditional partners, such as the PDT. But today it faces challenges within the PT itself. This is the case in Rio Grande do Sul, where a PT wing resists the agreement signed nationally with Lula’s approval.

The PDT declared support for Lula. In return, he hopes to count on the alliance in favor of the candidacy of former deputy Juliana Brizola for the Government of Rio Grande do Sul. The PT from Rio Grande do Sul, however, defends the launch of its own candidate for the position.

Members of the PT leadership are already talking about intervention in Rio Grande do Sul. Questioned by Sheet Regarding this possibility, Edinho said that this would not be a good path.

“I prefer political conviction, it builds. The PT in Rio Grande do Sul has a tradition of collective project, it has always been an example for Brazil. I still believe that they will measure the historical moment we are experiencing and that President Lula’s electoral tactics must prevail. The state’s decisions cannot put the re-election of the national project at risk. We cannot make mistakes in this dimension, history will take its toll. And the price can be very politically expensive”, he warns.

Edinho defends the prevalence of the national project over local interests and appeals to the collective spirit of the PT in Rio Grande do Sul.

“We have a political assessment that there is no way to defeat fascism in Brazil without building a strong democratic field. In this sense, the tactic for this victory is the re-election of President Lula. We cannot have this reading and decide in contradiction to that. It makes no sense”, he argues.

According to him, there is nothing more important than Lula’s victory, not least because of its significance for the future of Brazil, for changing the correlation of forces in Latin America. In Edinho’s opinion, it would signal to the world that it is possible to strengthen democracy.
