Iran has the necessary will to end the war with Israel and the United States, provided it receives guarantees that the conflict will not recur in the future. Iranian President Masúd Pezeškiján announced this in a phone call with the head of the European Council, António Costa, on Tuesday. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
“We have the necessary will to end this conflict if the basic conditions are met – especially the guarantees necessary to prevent the recurrence of aggression,” said Pezeškiján in a phone call, according to a statement from his office.
According to AFP, the guarantees are one of the key demands Tehran made in its response to the United States’ 15-point plan. According to the media, he also wants war reparations, recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and an end to all combat operations, including those in Iraq and Lebanon.
The US is demanding that the Islamic Republic pledge never to have nuclear weapons, to hand over all enriched uranium and to stop providing financial and military support to foreign militant groups. At the same time, they imagine that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened as a free maritime zone.
The head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araqchi, told al-Jazeera television on Tuesday, that Tehran has not yet sent the US an official response to the 15-point plan, nor has it submitted any of its own counter-proposals or terms for ending the conflict. At the same time, the minister stated that, as before, he still receives messages directly from the special American envoy Steve Witkoff. However, according to him, this does not mean that Iran is conducting negotiations with the United States. Arákčí also emphasized that Iran will only accept a complete end to fighting in the entire Middle East, not just a temporary cessation in the form of a cease-fire.
