Planalto formalizes nomination of Messias to the STF

The Civil House concludes the bureaucratic stage of the nomination and speeds up the initial rite before the hearing in the Senate committee

The Special Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic completed and delivered this Wednesday (April 1, 2026) the documentation of the minister of the AGU (General Attorney’s Office), to formalize his appointment to the STF.

The sending of the papers marks the official beginning of the name processing in the Senate. The analysis includes hearings at the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) and voting in the plenary.

The documentation brings together information required for the position, such as professional history, statements and certificates. The step is necessary for the president of the Senate, (União Brasil – AP), to move the process forward.

The nomination was unlocked after months of political impasse in Congress. The government decided to move forward with approval.

Messias is considered close to the president (PT) and acts as Planalto’s main legal advisor on strategic issues. The expectation is that the hearing will be scheduled in the coming days, depending on political coordination and the definition of the legislative calendar.
