Fire risk: 700,000 Stellantis cars called to the factory

Peugeot E-5008

Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat. Failure may result in a fire in the engine compartment.

The warning was given on Tuesday in Germany: according to the KBA (German Federal Motor Transport Authority), around 700,000 Stellantis vehicles are being recalled to the factory. In Germany alone, there are around 80 thousand.

The so-called recall involves branded cars Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat.

At issue is a fire risk. Some vehicles, manufactured since 2023, may have a problem related to the distance between the gasoline particle filter tube and the belt-driven generator.

In conditions of humidity, cites , this reduced distance and the “potential contact between components can lead to the ingress of water, which could create an electrical arc that, in turn, could trigger a thermal disturbance, such as overheating”.

In other words, there is a defect that allows water to enter the engine compartment – which, in the worst case scenario, could cause a fire in that compartment.

There will be two incorrectly installed components in 1.2 liter gasoline engines of PureTech mild-hybrid systems.

The group took this decision after registering 36 incidents related to this issue, including 12 fire starts.

Stellantis urges owners of affected vehicles to contact their dealership to schedule an appointment. Repairs will take approximately 30 minutes and will be carried out free of charge.

There is no indication of how many vehicles in Portugal are affected.
