The document states that Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), compromises the sovereignty of the United States by trying to restrict the freedom of expression of North American citizens.

The United States House Judiciary Committee, led by the Republican Representative Jim Jordan, ally of President Donald Trumpreleased this Wednesday (1st) the third report on alleged restrictions on freedom of expression in Brazil.

The document states that the Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF)compromises the sovereignty of the United States by trying to restrict the freedom of expression of American citizens. According to the report, these actions could also impact the Brazilian elections in October 2026.

Still according to the text, the STF’s decisions during the 2022 presidential election also raised concerns. The text states that orders to remove negative content about then-candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva could having influenced an election decided by a narrow margin.

To the committee, “many of Moraes’ censorship orders” would target political opponents, both his and Lula, in Brazil and abroad, on the eve of the presidential elections. The report also cites Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), as “important defender” of US sanctions against the minister.

“Minister Moraes’ censorship orders and legal maneuvers against the Bolsonaro family and their supporters could significantly harm their ability to speak out online on matters of public importance in the months leading up to the Brazilian presidential election,” says part of the document.

The document is the third stage of a series that began in April 2024, when Elon Musk’s social network X sent requests made by the STF and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to the commission to take down profiles and content.

A Young Pan tries to contact Moraes about the report. The space is open for manifestation.

Relationship with Eduardo Bolsonaro

Eduardo and Flávio Bolsonaro meet with Jim Jordan in the US Congress

Eduardo and Flávio Bolsonaro met with Jim Jordan in the US Congress.

In January, Jordan met in Congress with former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, senator Flávio Bolsonaro and journalist Paulo Figueiredo.

The document cites legal actions against Eduardo Bolsonaro, who is a defendant in Brazil for coercion and obstruction of justice, accused of acting in the United States in defense of sanctions against Brazilian authorities, including minister Alexandre de Moraes.

A commission states that an alleged “censorship regime” in Brazil could force American companies to choose between complying with Brazilian court decisions or closing their operations in the country. The report also points out that, between September 2025 and February 2026, Moraes issued confidential orders requiring platforms such as Google, X, Meta and Telegram to hand over user data.

On social media, Paulo Figueiredo reacted to the report and criticized Moraes. “I still can’t take you down or arrest you for your crimes, but I can help bring to light all your clandestine orders to American companies. And I will continue working for that. Don’t you like it? Complain to Trump,” he wrote.

Eduardo Bolsonaro also spoke out, citing concern from American parliamentarians with the 2026 elections and accusing the minister of favoring the PT and the Lula government. “This isn’t going to stay like this. It’s just the beginning of a big headache,” he said.

Moraes schedules interrogation of Eduardo Bolsonaro

In November 2025, the STF made Eduardo Bolsonaro a defendant for coercion, following a complaint from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), that the accuses of trying to articulate sanctions in the US to pressure Court ministers in the trial of former president Jair Bolsonaro. The testimony will be held via videoconference.

Eduardo is being investigated in a criminal case in the Supreme Court for trying to interfere in his father’s trial, former president Jair Bolsonaro, convicted of attempted coup d’état. According to the accusation, he had acted outside the country to influence the progress of the process.

According to the PGR, the parliamentarian was denounced for coercion during the process, a crime that consists of using threats or pressure to interfering in legal proceedings and favoring one’s own interests or those of third parties. The expected penalty is one to four years in prison.

Since March, Eduardo has lived in the United States, where he holds meetings with US government authorities to call for action against Brazil and Supreme Court ministers. Among the developments are the imposition of 50% tariffs on Brazilian products and the suspension of visas for authorities.
