The senator left Gilberto Kassab’s PSD and will join President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s PT. Formalized this Thursday (02), the parliamentarian’s decision was confirmed in light of the party’s decision for the Presidency of the Republic.
“The PSD decided to follow a new political path in the country, I respect it but I have a different thought, which is public in Brazil. Even with all the guarantees received by President Kassab, I decide that my cycle in the PSD ends here and I will follow new paths”, stated Eliziane.
Behind the scenes, the change from PSDB to PT had been negotiated since February. During a trip to Asia, Lula sounded out Eliziane about a possible change of party. The parliamentarian wants to run for re-election in Maranhão with the support of the PT member.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, also wanted to compete for Planalto for the acronym.
Last Monday (30) he made his pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic official. In a speech, he said that his first act, if elected, would be to grant amnesty to former president Jair Bolsonaro (), who was convicted of an attempted coup d’état.
Eliziane Gama was rapporteur for the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) that investigated the attacks on January 8th. In her opinion, the senator for the crimes of criminal association, political violence, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law and coup d’état.
The scenario in Maranhão is still uncertain. There are three candidates who want to run for the Senate with Lula’s support, but only two seats are up for grabs. In addition to Eliziane, Senator Weverton Rocha (PDT) wants re-election and the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca (PP), who is currently a deputy.
In the PT, Eliziane is seen as a name that can reach beyond the left-wing electorate given the senator’s connection with evangelical bases. She is part of the Assembly of God.
