Another Portuguese in Brazil: Franclim Carvalho is the new coach of Botafogo

Portuguese coach, who was Artur Jorge’s assistant, has his second experience as head coach in the Brasileirão.

The Portuguese Franclim Carvalho was made official this Thursday as Botafogo’s new coach, succeeding Martín Anselmi in the position, under a contract until the end of 2027.

O coach has already played for the Brazilian emblemwhere he was Artur Jorge’s assistant, winning the Brasileirão and the Libertadores.

This time, Franclim Carvalho will be the leader of the technical committee and will be joined by four Portuguese members in the delegation. It will be supported by Luís Felipe and Luís Viegas, in a technical team that also includes the physical trainer Fábio Monteiro and the goalkeeper coach Ricardo Matos.

At 39 years old, the helmsman Portuguese will have his second experience as head coach. In the 2021/2022 season, led B SAD for 18 matches, not avoiding the II League, after succeeding Filipe Cândido.

The coach, born in Miranda do Corvo, adds to his career even stints as assistant at Sporting de Braga and Al-Rayyanalways with Artur Jorge.

The team, previously led by former Porto coach Martín Anselmi, occupies 12th place in the Brasileirão, with nine points.

Brasileirão with five Portuguese

With the arrival of Franclim Carvalho, Portuguese coaches increase to five in the Brasileirão.

Abel Ferreira is at Palmeiras, Luís Castro occupies the vacancy at Grêmio, Leonardo Jardim is at Flamengo and Artur Jorge recently arrived at Cruzeiro.
