War with Iran: US counts seven aircraft destroyed

After the downing of an F-15 and an A-10 in separate attacks, the US Air Force now counts seven manned aircraft destroyed in the war with Iran.

Here’s how the other five episodes played out:

March 2: Three F-15s were shot down by air defenses over the country. The six crew members managed to eject safely, and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the three pilots have now returned to operations in strikes against Iran.

March 12: Six crew members died when one crashed in Iraq. The US Army said the aircraft was not shot down by enemy or friendly fire, but was involved in an incident with another plane during Operation Epic Fury. The second plane landed safely.

March 27: An E-3 Sentry, a US Air Force air warning and control plane, was destroyed on the yard in Saudi Arabia during an Iranian attack, according to photos geolocated by the CNN. The offensive left at least 10 American soldiers injured, with no deaths reported. An Air Force tanker aircraft was also damaged, sources said.

Additionally, a US Air Force F-35 fighter made an emergency landing at an American base in the Middle East last month after being hit by fire attributed to Iran, according to two sources consulted by CNN.
