Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker, Vinicius Junior, a prominent figure in the fight against racism and a frequent victim of insults and discrimination, warned this Monday (6) that “there are racists in every country”.
Vinícius praised the fact that other players are joining this fight, such as Lamine Yamal, who last week criticized the fans present at the friendly between Spain and Egypt in Barcelona, who repeatedly chanted “whoever doesn’t jump is a Muslim”.
“It’s important that Lamine speaks out; this can help others, because we are famous, we have money and we can balance things better”, declared Vinicius in an interview with journalists before the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich.
“Poor people and black people, who are everywhere, certainly have more difficulties than us, and in this (against racism) we all have to unite. And we, players, can have a lot of strength.”
“I’m not saying that Spain, Germany or Portugal are racist countries, but there are racists in these countries, also in Brazil and in many others,” he said.
However, the striker expressed his conviction that “if we continue this fight together, I think that in the future, these things (racist acts) will stop happening to new players and people in general.”
