Russian drone attack leaves three dead in Ukraine

Russia launched a drone attack against the Ukrainian port of Odessa, on the Black Sea, this Monday (6), leaving at least three dead, including a 30-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter, said Oleh Kiper, governor of the Odessa region, via the messaging app Telegram.

During the offensive, a daycare center and energy infrastructure in the region were damaged.

Images from Reuters news agency showed rescue teams and firefighters removing rubble at one of the affected sites: a house with the central part of the building seriously damaged.

“If I’m not mistaken, two Shahed drones hit our house. One hit the roof and the other the facade – the central part of the building. Our staircase completely collapsed, blocking the exit…” Danylo, 21, resident of the house, told Reuters.

Some 16,700 homes in several districts were left without power, energy company DTEK said, adding that damage was extensive and repairs would take time.

With the war now in its fifth year, Moscow has intensified its attacks on Odessa, an important logistics hub in southern Ukraine and responsible for most of Ukraine’s exports of grain and other maritime products.
