Brazil extended its lead against Scotland with another goal from Vinicius Júnior in the first half of this Wednesday’s match (24), for the 2026 World Cup. The celebration, however, was short-lived. After review by the VAR, the referee canceled the move as they understood that the Brazilian attacker had failed to recover the ball.
The goal came in the 21st minute. Under pressure on Scotland’s ball, Vini Jr took possession of Jack Hendry at the edge of the area, advanced towards the goal and finished past goalkeeper Angus Gunn to find the net for the second time in the match.
The referee validated the goal on the field, but was called by VAR to review a possible foul play in the dispute between the Brazilian and the Scottish defender. After analyzing the images on the monitor, he decided to cancel the goal in the 24th minute of the first half.
In fact, the referee was unable to be clear in explaining the invalidation of the goal when announcing the decision to everyone present at the Hard Rock Stadium.
