Trump is lost on Iran

US President Donald Trump speaks about the conflict in Iran in the James S. Brady Press Office of the White House on April 6, 2026 in Washington, DC

Donald Trump gave the long-awaited speech on the conflict in Iran. There was great expectation that the US president would signal the possibility of ending the war. Even because, the day before, Trump had spoken of exiting the war even if Iran did not open the Strait of Hormuz passage.

But because Trump is predictably unpredictable, he made a tough speech against the Persian country, threatening to attack electrical power facilities, which is technically a war crime.

Your supporters will say that Trump said this to pull Iran to the negotiating table. Put On the other hand, Trump’s more belligerent speech could show that the US president does not know how to get out of this situation he has placed his country in.

Shortly after the US threat to put Iran in the “Stone Age”, the Persian country warned that it will retaliate against Israel and American bases in the same proportion. With the impasse in negotiations, it is likely that the US will carry out some more bombings, claiming that it has destroyed Iran’s nuclear capacity and end the conflict with the narrative of “victory”. With the end of the bombings, the US would leave the decision to open the Strait of Hormuz to Europe.

In any case, the longer the war drags on, the greater the damage to the world economy and the greater the political wear and tear on Trump within his country. Iran knows this and exploits the situation very well. It is difficult to see a way out in which Trump emerges stronger.
