Tribute to the STF minister, who is also a pastor, with prayer, praise and biblical quotes
Minister André Mendonça, of the Federal Supreme Court, received the Necklace of Honor for Legislative Merit at the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo this Monday (April 6, 2026).
With the governor of São Paulo (Republicans) present, the tribute to Mendonça included prayers from pastors, praise music and biblical quotes.
A Presbyterian pastor, the minister is the rapporteur of the Master and INSS (National Social Security Institute) cases at the STF.
Prayers and songs
The tribute was proposed by the state deputy (PL), also an evangelical pastor. The session opened with a prayer by pastor Arival Dias Casimiro.
During the ceremony, the praise group Ad Brás de São Bernardo sang twice. The president of the Assembly of God, Bishop Samuel Ferreira, participated via video.
“His sentences are presented to God before they are given”said Samuel Ferreira.
While the minister received the medal, pastor Silvana Santos handed a bouquet of flowers to his wife, Janey Mendonça.
“May God help me and may God help us to be public men and, in my case, impartial and honest magistrates”said Mendonça at the end of the speech.
Pre-candidate for re-election from São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas said that God filled the minister with “spiritual gifts”.
“What you received came through Grace and Mercy. God gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and doctors. And God filled you with spiritual gifts”, said Tarcísio.

Nominated to the Supreme Court by (PL), Mendonça is the rapporteur of the investigations of the underway in the country.
Bolsonaro supporters use the minister’s decisions in the Master and INSS cases to criticize minister Alexandre de Moraes and the president (PT).
Mendonça ordered the arrest of former banker Daniel Vorcaro. The minister also the breaking of banking and tax secrecy of Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, son of President Lula.

Dias Toffoli, Gilmar Mendes, Alexandre de Moraes and Flávio Dino, on the other hand, have the worst evaluations. Voters who say they have an evaluation “negative” of these are, respectively, 81%, 67%, 59% and 58%.
