After the British government denies Kanye West entry into the United Kingdomo festival which featured the rapper as headliner was canceled. The Wireless Festival was scheduled to take place in London between the 12th and 14th of July, but authorities did not release electronic travel authorization for Ye.

The announcement of Kanye West as an artist at the festival generated criticism on social media, due to anti-Semitic statements made by the artist. The cancellation of the festival occurred after the departure of sponsors from the event organization, who, faced with the wave of negative comments, they decided not to associate with the rapper.

In a statement, released on social media, the festival organization confirmed the decision to cancel the edition. “As a result of Ye being refused entry to the UK by the Home Office, the Wireless Festival is cancelled. All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund,” the post reads.

Kanye West’s position

Before the festival’s cancellation was made officialWest issued a statement in which he acknowledged the negative reception to his performance. According to the singer, this would be a chance to “present a show of change”.

“I’ve been following the conversation about Wireless and I want to address it directly. My only goal is to go to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace and love through my music,” he said. “I am also willing to meet with community members in person to listen. I know words are not enough – I will have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.”

Festival reviews and reaction

Keir Starmer Prime Minister, was one of those against West’s participation in the Wireless Festival. “Everyone has a responsibility to ensure that Britain is a place where Jewish people feel safe,” he declared.

Melvin Benn, festival director, had come out in defense of West remaining in the line-up. He categorized the rapper’s statements as unacceptable, however, he claims to believe in second chances for the artist. “I witnessed many episodes of despicable behavior that I had to forgive and move on from,” he said.
