Guterres celebrates ceasefire and calls for an end to hostilities in the Middle East

The Secretary-General’s special envoy, Jean Arnault, is in the Middle East “to support efforts towards lasting peace”, the organization said.

The secretary general of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, celebrated the two-week truce agreed by the United States and Iran on Tuesday, 7, and asked the two countries to work on a pact to definitively end the conflict.

“The end of hostilities is urgently necessary to protect civilian lives and alleviate human suffering,” said Guterres, in a statement distributed by the UN.
