Drivers, beware! The D1 closure near Bratislava is just around the corner: It will start sooner than you would expect

  • The national highway company will redirect traffic from the bypass to the reconstructed D1 highway.
  • The D1 highway in the direction of Bratislava will be closed from Thursday evening to Sunday evening.
  • The closure concerns the section Bernolákovo Triblavina to Bratislava Zlaté piesky.

The National Highway Company (NDS) plans to redirect traffic from the temporary detour branch to the already reconstructed D1 highway. However, the rerouting must be preceded by the closure of the highway in the direction of Bratislava, which will begin on Thursday (April 9) evening. They informed about it from the media communication of NDS. The work will last until Sunday (April 12) evening.

The closure of D1 in the direction of Bratislava will begin on Thursday at 10 p.m. and the work will last until Sunday evening. The highway will be closed from the intersection of Bernolákovo in Triblavina to Zlaté piesky in Bratislava. Traffic in the opposite direction remains unchanged.

“In the event of a complicated traffic situation, for example on Friday, it is possible that the intersection at the Metro in the direction from Ivanka pri Dunaji will also be temporarily closed,” highway officials informed. NDS appeals to motorists to leave with sufficient time in case of a planned program in Bratislava during the weekend.

During the restriction, several types of work necessary to hand over the section to motorists are planned simultaneously. At the Vajnorsk lake, the road will be milled and new asphalt layers will be laid. According to highwaymen, this is the most time-consuming activity. The technological procedure requires breaks between the laying of individual asphalt layers, and these breaks cannot be bypassed or omitted.

During the weekend, the assembly of almost ten heavy-tonnage portal structures and the installation of large-scale permanent and variable traffic markings on the D1 in the direction of Bratislava will take place. Construction mechanisms will move highway equipment with a total weight exceeding 100 tons. Subsequently, several kilometers of horizontal road markings will be re-marked.

“However, it should be noted that this is the most time-consuming, but above all, the penultimate such complicated closure of D1 in the direction of Bratislava,” stated Július Mihálik, investment director and member of the board of directors of NDS.
