On Wednesday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced the shooting down of an Israeli Hermes 900 drone that was flying over the city of Lar in Fars province in the south of the country. According to a statement broadcast by IRIB state television, the drone was hit by a modern air defense system. Iran described the incident as a violation of the ceasefire that had been reached with the United States and Israel just hours earlier. At the same time, the Revolutionary Guards warned that any entry of enemy aircraft into Iranian airspace would be considered an act of aggression, to which they would respond without hesitation.
- The Iranian Revolutionary Guard shot down an Israeli Hermes 900 drone over the city of Lar.
- Iran described the drone incident as a violation of the newly concluded ceasefire.
- The attack on the Laván refinery triggered Iranian retaliatory actions against several states in the region.
- Tehran threatens to withdraw from the ceasefire if the attacks in Lebanon continue.
- The passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz has been suspended, which threatens the global oil trade.
### Tension after the armistice
The truce, which was supposed to ease the tension between the parties involved, was disrupted by several incidents shortly after its announcement. Iran has accused Israel of attacking a refinery on the island of Lavan, which is a key point for Iranian oil exports. In response to the attack, Tehran took retaliatory actions against several countries in the region, including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. These actions further escalated the situation and raised fears of a further worsening of the conflict.
Trace o Lebanon
Iran’s Tasnim news agency warned that Tehran may withdraw from the ceasefire if Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue. Iran insists that the ceasefire also applies to the country, where Israel is conducting military operations against the Hezbollah movement. On the contrary, Israel and US President Donald Trump say that Lebanon is not part of the agreement. On Wednesday, the Israeli army carried out the biggest attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the current conflict, which further escalated the situation.
Strait of Hormuz under pressure
Another consequence of the violation of the ceasefire is the suspension of the passage of tankers through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Fars news agency said the measure was taken in response to Israeli actions, which Tehran considers a threat to regional stability. The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil trade, and its closure could have serious economic consequences internationally.
Peace process in jeopardy
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, whose country is playing the role of mediator in the conflict, expressed concern over the ceasefire violations. According to him, these incidents undermine efforts for a peaceful solution and increase the risk of further escalation. At the same time, Sharif called on all parties to abide by the agreed conditions and to refrain from any provocations that could lead to the renewal of open conflict.
