Palmeiras draws against Colombia in their debut in the Libertadores – 04/08/2026 – Sport

In their 26th participation in the Copa Libertadores, Palmeiras maintained their high level of success in debut matches. This Wednesday (8), the alviverde team drew 1-1 with Junior Barranquilla, in Colombia, adding their first point in the current edition.

Since 2016, Palmeiras has always started its journey in the tournament as a visitor — and with a consistent record. In this cut-off, there are six wins, four draws — already considering the result against the Colombians — and only one defeat, numbers that reinforce the team’s competitiveness even far from their domains.

In the general panorama, acting as home or away, the white team confirms its reputation as a tough opponent in Libertadores debuts. Throughout its 26 appearances, it has accumulated 18 wins, five draws and only three defeats, a performance that represents a high level of achievement.

Runner-up in the 2025 edition, the squad led by Abel Ferreira showed the power to react away from home. After coming up behind on the scoreboard, with a penalty goal from Teófilo Gutiérrez in the first half, Palmeiras sought a draw in the final stage with Ramón Sosa, who found the net in the 11th minute.

Palmeiras and Junior are part of Group F of the competition, alongside Cerro Porteño and Sporting Cristal. The São Paulo team’s next commitment in the Libertadores will be against the Peruvians, on Thursday (16), at Allianz Parque.

Before that, the Barra Funda team turns its attention to the Brazilian Championship. On Sunday (12), they will compete in the classic against Corinthians, at the Neo Química Arena. Palmeiras leads the national competition, with 25 points in ten rounds.

Earlier, also this Wednesday, Mirassol won the first game in its history in the Copa Libertadores. At home, the São Paulo team beat Lanús, from Argentina, 1-0, in a match in Group G.

Defender João Victor scored the only goal of the match, in the second half. Reinaldo took a corner, and the defender headed it firmly to find the net.

The triumph also ended a fast for Mirassol. The team had not won a match since January 29, in the first round of the Brazilian Championship, when they beat Vasco. After that, they had four draws and seven defeats, including clashes for the Campeonato Paulista. In Nacional, the club is at the bottom, with just six points added after nine games played.

On Saturday (11), the team returns to the field for the Brazilian Championship to face Bahia. Then, on Tuesday (4), he returns to the field for the Libertadores, when he visits LDU, in Quito, Ecuador.

The Ecuadorian team also debuted with victory in the continental competition. On Tuesday (7), they beat Always Ready, from Bolivia, 1-0.

In Group A, Flamengo, current champion of the Libertadores, debuted with a 2-0 victory over Cusco, in Peru. Bruno Henrique and Arrascaeta scored the goals of the match.
