The geopolitical challenges of the current world order, which many describe as disorder, must push the European Union (EU) to “take more responsibility in their own security“and reduce the “significant dependence“regarding the US military industrya power that under the Government of Donald Trump is despising and threatening the alliances forged after the Second World War. This has been the main message that has been transmitted this Thursday in Barcelona André Denkexecutive director of the European Defense Agencyduring an informative breakfast organized by the CIDOB think tank.
“Security and defense are no longer someone else’s business, they are everyone’s business. Europe needs to assume more responsibility for its own security. Not in an isolated or subordinate manner, but together with its partners,” stressed Denk, who was presented by the person who was until recently his boss, the former high representative of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the Twenty-seven and today president of CIDOB, Josep Borrell. And to achieve this objective, the German general has detailed that “three things” are necessary: ”stronger” armed forces, a “more resilient” industrial base and “deeper” cooperation between Member States.
