Slovaks, be careful at gas stations: New diesel prices apply from midnight! The state proceeded with the change

The special diesel price valid in Slovakia for vehicles registered abroad will be reduced to 2.003 euros per liter of fuel from midnight on Friday (April 10). This follows from the amended decree of the Ministry of Finance (MF) of the Slovak Republic, which was published on the portal slov-lex.sk on Thursday. Last week, the regulated price was 2.063 euros/liter.

  • The special price of diesel for foreign vehicles will drop to 2.003 euros per liter.
  • Until now, the regulated price of 2.063 euros per liter of diesel fuel applied.
  • As of Friday, the export of diesel fuel from Slovakia abroad is allowed again.
  • The different diesel prices and the limit of ten liters per container remain.
  • At a price of 1.751 euros per liter, Slovakia has the cheapest diesel.

The special diesel price has been in effect in Slovakia since March 23 as part of the measures in the state of oil emergency decided by the government. On Wednesday (April 8), the Cabinet approved an amendment to the relevant regulation, so diesel will be able to be exported from Slovakia again from Friday (April 10). Other restrictions, such as the ability to pump diesel into a portable container with a maximum volume of ten liters or different fuel prices for domestic and foreign cars, remain in effect.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the new special diesel price applies exclusively to vehicles registered outside the territory of the Slovak Republic. It is determined on the basis of average prices in the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria. Data on prices in individual countries is published by the European Commission (EC) every Thursday, and the calculation is based on these statistical data. The special price does not apply to so-called premium diesel.

As the Ministry of Finance further informed, according to the updated EC data, it stands diesel in Poland is 1.803 euros/liter, in the Czech Republic it is at the level of 1.977 euros/liter, and in Austria it is 2.228 euros/liter. With the price of diesel for domestic consumers at 1.751 euros per liter, Slovakia is still the cheapest among the compared countries, the ministry emphasized.

“The Government of the Slovak Republic adopted the regulation in order to protect the domestic market and the citizens of the Slovak Republic. In view of the current development and stabilization of the situation on the domestic market with petroleum products, the government canceled the restriction on the export of diesel fuel outside the territory of Slovakia. The other measures, i.e. double diesel prices and the limit on refueling per tank, remain in force,” added the Ministry of Finance.
