The Minister of Planning and Budget, Bruno Moretti, said, this Friday (26), that the new profit ceiling for framing the Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI) will be between R$ 130 thousand and 140 thousand annually. This value corresponds to the inflation readjustment since the last update of the category ceiling, in 2022.
“We are working here with the prospect of updating this ceiling to a level between R$ 130 and 140 thousand, which is more or less the replacement of inflation in the period. And this will be done in a staggered manner between 2027 and 2028”, said Moretti in an interview with the EBC program Bom dia, Ministro.
In addition to the ceiling readjustment, the proposal provides increase the maximum number of employees from one to two which can be hired by individual micro-entrepreneurs.
According to the minister, the measure meets a historic demand from the category and was structured to respect the fiscal and budgetary rules in force. “We will update the number of employees that MEI can hire. Today it can only hire one. The expectation is for one more hire.”
