Secretary-General says Trump is ‘clearly disappointed’ with NATO allies

The secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, stated this Wednesday, 8, that the American president Donald Trump is “clearly disappointed” with the countries allied with the military bloc, after the alliance members refused to collaborate in the war against Iran.

Rutte’s comments came after a meeting at the White House. “Some European countries were tested and failed, but a large majority of them, and this is what I discussed with Trump today, did what they promised before in a case like this,” he said in an interview with CNN.

Rutte said he had a “frank and open” conversation with Trump, explaining to the American leader that European countries provided support with logistics and other commitments.

The NATO chief also said that members of the military bloc do not view the war in Iran as illegal and that most agreed that it was important to degrade Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
