More than 70 countries condemn attacks against peacekeepers and civilian population in Lebanon

More than 70 countries joined Indonesia in condemning the attacks against the UN Interim Force for Lebanon (UNIFIL), in a context of escalating war against Beirut, despite peace talks with Israel.

Ambassadors from a dozen countries expressed “deep concern about the escalation of tension in Lebanon since March 2, 2026 and the impact on the security of peacekeepers”following the and after military personnel from France, Ghana, Nepal and Poland were injured.

The diplomatic missions stressed that “peacekeepers should never be the target of attacks” and warned that these facts “could constitute a war crime”, at the same time as made an “appeal to the UN to continue investigating all attacks”.

These delegations also emphasized “the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, especially due to the high number of civilian casualties, the widespread destruction of infrastructure and the mass displacement of more than a million people”.

In a parallel statement, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the measure responds to an initiative by Jakarta following the death of three blue helmets from this Asian country, at a time when the nation, with the largest Muslim population in the world, seeks to reinforce its role in foreign policy and increase involvement in that war-torn region.

The head of the Indonesian mission to the United Nations, Umar Hadi stated that UNIFIL’s security “is non-negotiable” and urged the UN to use “all available instruments” to reinforce protection “in the face of an increasingly dangerous situation”, according to a statement issued from Jakarta.

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to disarm Hezbollah and establish “peaceful relations”, on a day when Iran reiterated its demand that bombings cease before holding talks with the US in Pakistan over the weekend.

At the same time, Islamabad urged Israel to immediately cease military aggression against Lebanon, reiterating that the ceasefire also includes this country and warned that the massive bombings violate international law, following the murder of more than 300 people in Lebanon since the beginning of the truce.
