João Fonseca ended his participation in the Monte Carlo Masters this Friday after being defeated by German Alexander Zverev in a game that lasted 2h40. Despite the defeat and the frustration at not being able to reach the semi-finals of the tournament, the Brazilian has reasons to celebrate. The campaign, which took him to the quarterfinals, will guarantee a jump of five positions in the ATP rankings.

Currently 40th on the list, the young tennis player from Rio secured 35th place in the list with 1,315 points. Since the beginning of the campaign, the athlete has secured 200 points. The ranking update takes place next Monday. If he won the title, he could reach 17th place.

In the current 2026 season, the Rio native competed in his sixth tournament, having so far recorded eight wins and six defeats. Before Monte Carlo, he was in action at the Australian Open, ATP 250 Buenos Aires, Rio Open (ATP 500), Masters 1000 Indian Wells and Masters 1000 Miami.

The prodigy’s best result so far was the round of 16 in California, when he had a great match against Jannik Sinner, but was defeated by the runner-up in the rankings.

Buoyed by the good impression he left in Monte Carlo, João Fonseca follows his calendar schedule and takes action now to compete in the ATP 500 in Munich. In this competition, the tennis player from Rio will not be seeded.
