British customs officers seized approximately five tons of cocaine with an estimated market value of 400 million pounds (converted to almost 460 million euros) in one of London’s main port terminals.the local government announced on Saturday. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.

The drugs were discovered by Customs during a series of operations at London Gateway in February and March, with the largest one-time seizure consisted of almost 2,800 packages hidden in a shipment of bananas weighing approximately three tons.
“Smugglers did everything to avoid detection – they tried to mimic the exact shape and weight of banana crates to hide the drugs among the fruit in one of the shipping containers,” the British Home Office said in a statement.
Another one a shipment of cocaine worth 80 million pounds (almost 92 million euros) and weighing one ton was discovered in March in a shipping container with South American wine. The Department of the Interior said the Border Guard had seized nearly 150 tonnes of illegal drugs in the year to the end of March.
