Collision with the Citic Tower, in the financial center of the Chinese capital, caused a rush in the streets; Authorities have not yet reported whether there are any victims
A small plane crashed this Friday (26) into the Citic Tower, the tallest building in Beijing, and scattered debris across the central region of the Chinese capital.
The building, also known as China Zun, is located in the city’s financial district and houses the headquarters of the Citic Group, one of China’s largest state-owned conglomerates.
Images taken at the scene show destroyed windows and a hole in the side of the tower, on a high floor.
The accident happened around 6pm local time (7am Brasilia time), precisely at the end of the working day, when the region had heavy traffic and a large circulation of people.
So far, there has been no official confirmation about injuries or deaths, nor details about the pilot.
The region was surrounded by a strong security system, with roadblocks nearby and a reinforced police presence.
According to the New York Timesposts about the accident and the building itself were being censored on Chinese social media.
Opened in 2018, the Citic Tower is one of Beijing’s postcards and is located opposite the CCTV headquarters, another icon of the city’s architecture.
