Police arrest 212 protesters in London in protest against veto of pro-Palestine group

LONDON, April 11 (Reuters) – Police said this Saturday they arrested 212 ‌people at a protest in London’s Trafalgar Square against the UK’s ‌decision to ban the group Palestine Action.

The demonstration was the first since the High Court of ‌London ruled in February that the ban classifying the pro‑Palestinian group as a terrorist organization is illegal. The UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, was granted permission to appeal the decision.

Lawmakers banned Palestine Action — which accuses the British government of complicity in what it says are Israeli war crimes in Gaza — under anti-terrorism legislation last July after some members stormed a Royal Air Force base.

Israel has repeatedly denied any abuses in its war in Gaza.

During this Saturday’s demonstration, demonstrators carrying signs, some with black and white Palestinian scarves and Palestinian flags, sat on the ground or on camp chairs.

London’s Metropolitan Police said in a post on X that they ‘continued to make arrests when people showed support for a banned organisation’.
