Montenegro claims that Portugal is “much better” since joining the Government

Luís Montenegro on the night he won (March 10)

After two years at the head of the executive, the prime minister concludes that he governs neither looking to the right nor to the left, but looking at each person.

At a time when two years have passed since the AD Government took over the reins of Portugal, the Luís Montenegro stated that the country is “much better” than it was in 2024.

“O Portugal in 2026 is not the same which was in 2024 (…) I know that not much is said about this now, but two years ago we were experiencing eight years of constant disinvestment in public services and a budgetary strategy where results were achieved, above all, through more taxes and more restraint in public investment”, said the prime minister.

At the end of the district days organized by the PSD and CDS-PP in Maia, in the district of Porto, the chief executive said that the motto “minimum services and maximum taxes” was the situation in which the country was.

“We today We have taxes, I won’t say minimums, but in minimums compared to what they were and maximum services compared to what we had in 2024”, he highlighted.

Furthermore, the PSD president pointed out that in 2024 Portugal had the teachers on the streets and schools in “uproar” and security forces complaining for a remunerative status.

“Today, 39 agreements later and 29 public administration careers reviewed So there is still a lot to do to motivate public administration workers even more, but we are better than we were”, he highlighted.

Montenegro considered that in two years a lot had happened in Portugal, in Europe and in the world, but despite this, the country managed to have its economy growing more than the average of the European Union in the Eurozone.

We managed to reach the end of 2024 and have the IRS lowerhave the solidarity supplement for the elderly increase, have a solidarity supplement paid to pensioners with lower pensions, have the beginning of the recovery of teachers’ service time”, he specified.

“We managed to start awarding salary increases for security forces and, all of this, in 2024, and when they said we were going to put public accounts in disarray we had the first surplus”, he added.

And he went on to say: “But then, in 2025, with a world even more unstable than it was in 2024, we not only repeated the feat, but we have surpassed even more the estimates of those pessimists who anticipatedif they didn’t really want it, for Portugal to return to having a deficit in its public accounts”.

O prime minister assured that he is taking care of familiesnamely from parents, grandparents and grandchildren and, so that everyone has a solution.

“We are looking at the person. We do not govern looking to the right or to the left. We We govern by looking at each person”, he concluded.
