The Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico, said on Monday that he is ready for intensive cooperation with the new Hungarian Prime Minister, whom he also congratulated on his victory in the parliamentary elections. Fico expressed his interest in friendly relations with Budapest on the social network Facebook, reports TASR.

“With full respect, I take note of the decision of the citizens of Hungary in yesterday’s parliamentary elections and I am ready for intensive cooperation with the new Hungarian Prime Minister, whom I congratulate on the results of the elections,“ the Slovak Prime Minister wrote in the post. According to him, the goals of the Slovak government do not change.
“We are interested in friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Hungary and the above-standard status of national minorities living in the territories of our countries,” wrote Fico. In addition, he stated that the Slovak Republic wishes to revive the Vyšehrad Four and maintain a joint procedure with Hungary in the protection of energy interests. “I believe that there is still an eminent interest of Slovakia and Hungary, but also of the whole of Central Europe, in resuming the operation of the Družba pipeline,” pointed out the prime minister.
In another post, Fico thanked outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his cooperation. “In an atmosphere of mutual respect, we have invested a huge amount of energy in high-quality Slovak-Hungarian relations, which have never been at such a high level as in this period. His move to the gate in terms of protecting sovereignty and national interests was and always will be a great example for me.” added the Slovak Prime Minister.
After counting 98.9 percent of the votes cast in Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Hungary, opposition leader Péter Magyar’s Tisza party dominates. The head of the Hungarian government and the Fidesz party, Viktor Orbán, described the election result as “painful”.
