The legendary bandleader and conductor Václav Hybš died at the age of 90. The artistic legend accompanied such stars as Karel Gott († 80) and Waldemar Matuška († 76) and viewers also remember him from the cult program Televarieté alongside Jiřina Bohdalová (94) and Vladimír Dvořák († 74). In the past, the artist successfully overcame several serious health complications, informs the Czech portal.
Václav Hybš celebrated his anniversary last year. His wife Jarmila joked at the time that while at home he pretends to be an invalid, at the party he suddenly acts like a young man. However, the truth is that the famous bandleader fought for his life several times. “At the age of seventy-five, I had a stomach ulcer burst right on stage. By the time I got to the hospital, I had lost a lot of blood and was really weak.” he recalled a terrifying experience.
In 2014, his heart failed him when a blocked aorta required surgery at twelve o’clock. When he got to the doctor, his heart was only beating with its last strength. Only an immediate transfer to the ward and a double bypass saved his life.
The well-known bandleader was connected with Karl Gott for approximately sixty years of cooperation. The legendary “Golden Nightingale” once said that every working meeting with this conductor was a holiday for him. Hybš felt the same way. “I recorded several dozen things with Karl, thirty, maybe forty,” counted in 2019.
At the same time, he was the author of the famous New Year’s Opera from 1974, in which Gott and Waldemar Matušek sing a mixture of the most famous arias. However, this work was created at a time when Hybš’s paths with “Waldo” parted ways, and not exactly in a good way. The singer then deleted him from his life for good. “When Waldemar found out that I was the author, he didn’t want to do it. But Gott had already sung his part in the studio, so the television informed Matušek that if he backed out, he would have to pay a heavy fine. So he finally did it…” revealed the background of the conflict.
With his dance orchestra, this bandleader accompanied a number of stars of Czech popular music. In Czechoslovak television, he participated not only in the creation of the legendary New Year’s Eve, but also in the cult program Televarieté, for example. From February 2011 to January 2017, he presented his own show Ślágre od srdaje on station Dvojka Český rozhlas.
