International leaders congratulated the victory of (Tisza, center-right) in the legislative elections in Hungary on Sunday (12.Apr.2026) and highlighted the result as a sign of the electorate’s adherence to European values, after the defeat of (Fidesz, right), which had been in power for 16 years. The demonstrations came mainly from heads of government and directors of European Union institutions, with an emphasis on high participation and the country’s repositioning within the bloc.
The result was interpreted as a relevant political movement on the continent. Data from the election indicate, but with a change in government leadership, which led foreign authorities to emphasize the democratic dimension of the process and the willingness to cooperate with the new management. In Brazil, they celebrated the result.
The President of France, (Renaissance, center), said he had spoken with Magyar and stated: “France welcomes the victory of democratic participation and the attachment of the Hungarian people to the values of the European Union”. According to him, the moment opens space to advance in “a more sovereign Europe, for the continent’s security, competitiveness and democracy”.

The president of the government of Spain, (PSOE, left), stated: “Today Europe and European values win. Congratulations to all Hungarian citizens on historic elections”. He added that he looks forward to working with Magyar “for a better future for all Europeans”.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, (Labour Party, center-left), classified the result as a political milestone: “This is a historic moment, not only for Hungary, but for European democracy”. He also said that he intends to cooperate with the new government for “security and prosperity” of both countries.

Among leaders of European institutions, the President of the European Parliament, declared: “Congratulations to Member of the European Parliament Peter Magyar on his victory in the national elections. Hungary’s place is in the heart of Europe”.

The President of the European Council, , highlighted electoral participation: “The record turnout shows the democratic spirit of the Hungarian people. They have spoken — and their will is clear”. According to him, the expectation is to work with Magyar to make Europe “stronger and more prosperous”.

The President of the European Commission, , stated: “Hungary chose Europe. Europe has always chosen Hungary. A country resumes its European path. The Union becomes stronger”.

Among countries that border Hungary, the president of Ukraine, congratulated Magyar and stated: “It is important when a constructive approach prevails”. He declared that Ukraine seeks to maintain good relations with its European neighbors and said it was ready to advance cooperation with Budapest: “We are ready for meetings and constructive joint work for the benefit of both nations, as well as peace, security and stability in Europe”.

The president of Austria, (independent), stated: “Today is a good day to be a European patriot” and said that the result shows the role of citizens in building the bloc. For him, “only a united Europe can position itself more strongly and better defend its interests” in the face of conflicts and external pressures.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, (Social Democratic Directorate, left), said he recognized the voters’ decision and said he was ready for cooperation with the new government. Declared: “We are committed to friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Hungary” and cited common interests in energy and the reactivation of the Druzhba pipeline.

Outside the European continent, Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a publication shared by President Javier Milei (Liberty Advances, right), stated: “We reaffirm our desire to continue strengthening the significant bilateral relationship” and wished Magyar success. He also thanked Orbán for his cooperation and said that the country intends to deepen the common agenda.

The Prime Minister of India, (BJP, right), declared: “Congratulations on your significant electoral victory” and stated that India and Hungary have a relationship based on shared values. He said he looked forward to working with Magyar to strengthen bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership between India and the European Union.
