Eric Swalwell also suspended his campaign for governor of California. There are reports of inappropriate behavior.
The US congressman Eric Swalwell announced its resignation, after being the target of allegations of sexual abuse which led the Ethics Committee of the Chamber of Deputies to open an investigation.
“I apologize Sincerely to my family, my team and my constituents for the errors in judgment I have made in the past. I will defend myself against the serious allegations and fake that are made to me. However, I have to take responsibility and bear the mistakes I made“, declared the Democratic congressman in a statement.
Swalwell suspended on Sunday your campaign in charge of governor and California in the November midterm elections, after the newspaper reported several allegations of inappropriate behavior, namely that it had sexually assaulted a woman twice, including when she worked for him.
A former employee of Eric Swalwell revealed that, in 2024, the congressman raped her when she was very drunk – and was left bruised and bleeding: “I was pushing him away from me, saying no,” the woman told CNN. “He didn’t stop.”
In 2019, when he was still working for Eric, he said that woke up naked with the politician in a hotel room after a night of heavy drinking. She doesn’t remember what happened, but she physically felt that they had sexual contact.
Three other women alleged, also on CNN, various types of inappropriate sexual conduct on the part of the Democratic congressman – including sending messages unsolicited explicit or photos of nudity.
The House of Representatives Ethics Committee launched an investigation when several lawmakers from both political parties called on Swalwell to resign.
Swalwell stood out as one of the proponents in the House of Representatives of President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial in his first term, in early 2021, and was considered one of the strongest candidates to succeed Gavin Newsom as governor.
